One of the biggest thrills for a photographer of cityscapes like mine (in Austin, Texas) is framing an image where the most powerful sight lines converge to highlight the story behind the picture. My shorthand lingo for this phenomenon is when all of the stars align. (The trifecta version of this is when the moon, sun and stars align—admittedly, that’s a rarity. But you get the idea.)
Since the intent behind my Vanishing Austin series is to contrast the old with the new, finding that shot where all of the stars align is mission one. Here are a few of the images from the 100+ in the Austin collection that show off just what I mean.

About my Vanishing Austin series: While many Austin landmarks are lost, many are survivors still. Admire them all in a slideshow, HERE. Prints start at $35.
You can marvel at what’s lost and what’s survived in my Endangered Species of Austin poster, featuring 16 Austin icons, and sized at a handsomely large 24 x 36,” available for $25, HERE.

The past and the present converge to make the future. Nice solution to this week’s challenge. I’m loving those beautiful blue Texas skies.

Love this one! It looks like a contemporary painting, with all the flat tones and sharp edges.
